In partnership with BT Openzone, we are deploying Wi-Fi hotspots in street payphones across the UK.

What is Wi-Fi? The BT Openzone Wi-Fi service provides customers using wireless-enabled devices such as laptops or PDAs with fast, wireless, internet access at more than 4,000 payphone sites across the UK. This uses the standard 802.11b wireless technology and provides coverage of approximately 50 metres radius from the payphone.

Where are the hotspots? In addition to the street payphone sites, BT Openzone have hotspots in over 8,000 public locations across the UK and Ireland, including: travel sites such as Welcome Break service stations,,major main-line railway stations, major airports (Heathrow / Gatwick / Stansted / Aberdeen), McDonalds drive-in's, hotels such as Hilton Hotels and many other public locations. Are there any health & safety issues? Although this hotspot technology uses very low power radio signals, we have completed testing to ensure that it fully complies with both the Government guidelines and BT's rigorous H&S guidelines.
